Ever since Apple introduced the iPad lots of consumers are now up in arms over the differences between a tablet and a netbook. So let’s take a quick look at three key differences between the two portable computing devices.

1. Keyboard vs. Touchscreen – one of the biggest differences is the fact that tablets do not have a physical keyboard versus netbooks which do. The iPad has a built in touch keyboard which allows for quick creation of emails, office docs and letters. But this can get tiresome if a lengthy piece is needed. On the other hand many complain that on a netbook the smaller keyboard is also quite cramped for anything but short and quick typing. If you need to view the web as opposed to interact with it, then a tablet is your best bet. If on the other hand typing is more of what you will be doing, then a netbook might be the best device for you.
2. Software vs. Hardware – most tablets due to their size and weight will of course carry less software and hardware than their netbook counterparts. To keep them at a low weight and small size, tablet manufacturers keep them fluff-free.
3. Light vs. Heavy – a tablet will more than likely be lighter than a netbook because of the two reasons mentioned above, the absence of a keyboard and less memory and a lighter battery. The iPad for example weighs just over a pound while the Dell Mini 10 netbook weighs just over 2 pounds.
Which type of device is best for you, really comes down to your usage. Tablets are not meant for heavy computing, but are great for viewing and consuming information. Not too mention just a tad more portable. Just a tad!
