The 411 on Kmart’s 7 inch Android Tablet

Kmart sort of shocked the tech world when it announced an Augen Gentouch 78 tablet for sale a few weeks back, which is not just any tablet but an Android powered one.

The Augen 7 inch tablet made waves across the retail sector (and online with the media) because let’s face it Kmart isn’t your bevy of tech wonderland like an Apple or Best Buy. So this came out of left field and everyone went nuts. The Augen tablet has since announced that Google did not authorize use of its market apps and newer models will indeed NOT carry this software.

Surprised?

You shouldn’t be as Google is looking to tighten market share, not release it. Especially with smaller players like Augen. For now though expect similar smaller low cost tablets to make it to store shelves, but we will all just have to wait and see which OS is the premier operating system these cheaper tablets will carry.

The Augen Gentouch 78 is a sweet tablet that allows for ebook reader capabilities, plenty of storage at 2GB internal memory, a video player built in, easy email and web surfing via WIFI, plus it has support for flash. Keep an eye on this brand!
